Daisy Yang
Canada/Taiwan
In the day I dream all night long
I see us
frozen
in the rippled ice of the Arctic sea
breaking, shuffling, stacking
mirroring, reflecting, piercing
looking forward looking back
looking through
in the darkness the moon shines
Until the sun also rises
About Daisy
Daisy Yang is informed by the documentary photography tradition. Her work focuses on migration, identity and mental health issues. Her experience as a young immigrant from Taiwan to Canada lent her a unique lens into the intercultural world around her. In 2014, together with a Nepali lawmaker, she produced a visual documentation to highlight the issue of statelessness in Nepal. The document instigated public discussion and support for constitutional amendments. From 2015-2018, she spent many months in Lalitpur and Kathmandu, Nepal, researching and documenting young masculinities of the migrant worker demographic, resulting in her first long-form visual narrative, The Becoming.
